ABOUT

Melanie is a consultant in oral medicine working in Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board and specialist private practice in Cardiff.
Melanie qualified from Cardiff Dental School in 2014 with First Class Honours, and worked within primary and secondary care dentistry, prior to embarking upon oral medicine specialist training in 2018. After graduating from dental school, she worked in the fields of oral medicine, oral surgery, community dentistry and oral & maxillofacial surgery. She began her role as an oral medicine specialty registrar in 2018, working in both Cardiff and Bristol and attending medical clinics in relevant specialties such as dermatology, gastroenterology and rheumatology.

​Melanie teaches and mentors junior dentists in the field of oral medicine, supervising clinical care, delivering lectures, and carrying out audits,
presentations and projects. In 2018 she completed a Postgraduate Certificate in dental education with the University of Bedfordshire.
Melanie is an active fellow of the British and Irish Society for Oral Medicine (BISOM) and member of the European Association of Oral Medicine (EAOM), attending conferences and delivering oral presentations and scientific posters. In 2022, Melanie was an Assistant Reviewer for the World Workshop on Oral Medicine VIII in Memphis, Tennessee, resulting in the publication of several systematic reviews on the topic of dry mouth. In addition, Melanie has published extensively in the scientific literature on oral medicine related topics.

Melanie was awarded her Fellowship Diploma in the specialty of oral medicine in 2024, following completion of her specialty training and passing the Intercollegiate Speciality Fellowship Examination (ISFE) in oral medicine, and was granted entry to the General Dental Council (GDC) oral medicine specialist list.

Melanie is a dependable and highly organised professional with a true passion for patient care. She prides herself on excellent communication. Melanie diagnoses and manages the full breadth of oral medicine and facial pain conditions, as well as offering treatments such as soft tissue biopsy and intra-lesional steroid injections, and she especially enjoys helping patients with the diagnosis and management of complex mucosal disease.

When not in work, Melanie loves to travel and enjoys long walks in the Welsh countryside.
